Ruby Valley/Mountains, Nevada - "looked like an elephant to us"

Crossing the Maverick Springs Mountain Range on the road to Ruby Valley.
Entering a unique region of Nevada.
FWC and Ruby Lake.
Miles of marsh and lake in the middle of arid Nevada. We should have brought a kayak.
Boating with a Four Wheel Camper?
Our actual location on a dike. Ruby Lake NWR has created a self-guided driving tour that winds along the shoreline and the dike system.
Driving south on the Ruby Crest Trail searching for a place to camp.
Looked like there was a nice place near the cliffs to the south.
We found this unique rock formation. Sort of looked like an elephant to us.
Looking east from our Ruby Mountains camp.

Looking south.
After breaking camp the next morning we drove north to Elko.
We need to visit the Ruby Mountains again.

  1. I've never been out that way but I'd like to check it out sometime. Supposed to be nice garnets around there someplace.
